Anyone else experience this?

I can yell at the kids --- I am fine with it, they are fine with it.  (as noted by their lack of reaction)

If Joe yells at the kids, I get all tense.  They get all tense.  I hate it and I'm constantly telling him that he cannot yell at them like that.  It scares them (and makes me have a lump in my throat).

I know this is due to my past but I'm wondering if anyone else experiences this?

And yes, save the "neither of you should be yelling at the kids" speech as I know that already!

  • I'm the exact same way.
  • Yes. My H doesn't raise his voice that often, but when he does, it definitely makes me and the kids tense.

  • yes!!!!!!!

I'm a screamer and constantly yelling at my older girls...I do with Michelle but not anywhere near as much...But if dh yells at them I get upset and so my older girls.  When I do it they say "watch out mom's on a rampage" and go hang out in their rooms lol

  • Yes.  I think the kids are scared when DH raises his voice because he has a deep voice.  I'm not really a yeller, so I hate when he does it.

  • Yes, although I don't think DS gets any more or less upset by DH yelling than he does by me yelling. I definitely hate when DH yells at DS, but it's rare and I always have to remind myself that he has his moments of frustration just like I do.

This...I think it bothers me more than DS.  And I'm a yeller-I just think I'm less scary!

  • Yes! I am so glad you posted this. I've often wondered if this is a natural reaction.

And I have never met a mom that never ever yells. Is that even possible?
