Preemies

Would you be worried?

My ds hasn't gained any weight since December. He has fallen off the growth chart-even for his adjusted age. He eats a lot and I feed him whenever he is hungry. I guess I feel like I am not doing enough although I don't know what else I could be doing. He is 17 months and can still fit in some 9 month clothes. FWIW, I was also a tiny toddler, but full term. maybe its just genetic??

Re: Would you be worried?

  • What does your pedi say? If your pedi is okay and DS is meeting his milestones/developing as they would like to see then I wouldn't worry. IF this is not the case then I would be super worried. I worry about my girls and their weight gain issues ALL the time and my pedi and DH spend tons of time telling me they are ok and why she's (my pedi) not worried about their size.
  • She wants him to gain weight but doesn't seem overly concerned about it. Her main concern seemed to be that babies need body fat to help with brain development. She gave us ways to include more fats in his diet. But his favorite foods are all fruits and veggies.?

  • I am sorry that he is not gaining weight but was also glad that your post was not about complications in your pregnancy now.

My niece was a preemie and is the same way. She is 18 months and wears 9-12 and few 12 month clothes. She eats well...  The doc said the same thing to my sis. I think if the dr. is not overly worried, you have to trust them - but I know that is hard. Is he very active and burning too many calories?

  • He is super active and hardly ever sits still. I am very happy that he hasn't lost any weight- although it looks like it b/c he has grown almost 4 inches taller.?

And thanks for being concerned about this pregnancy. I can't wait for 37 weeks to get here...?
