most people won't just make up a nn for someone else.?
I don't agree with this. My brother's name is Michael and when he introduces himself, as Michael, people constantly say, "Nice to meet you Mike." It drives him crazy because he never goes by Mike, but people at his work refer to him as Mike. Elizabeth and Catherine are the same way. I know people that introduce themselves as Elizabeth and people call them Liz, Eliza, Beth, etc...She says over and over that her name is Elizabeth! Catherine goes by Kate and people call her Katie.?

Someone is actually calling her Eliza after she intros herself as Elizabeth? That's weird.
I can understand the Mike thing b/c it is the first syllable of his name. Same with Tom/Thomas, Sue/Susan. Some ppl just shorten names. Nothing you can do about that.
But I can't imagine someone saying at school, or work, "Hi, my name is Lucinda but you can call me Lucie." and the other person saying, "OK, Cindy. Nice to meet you!" lol

I agree, but if she introduces herself as Lucinda, people may call her Cindy.?
I think you can set whatever nickname you want for her.
"Normal day, let me be aware of the treasured day you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart...let me hold you while I may."

Oh, absolutely. If you want Lucinda only, I'd say that'll be tough, but if you want Lucie, that will help prevent ppl saying Cindy. That is why if you have a preferred nickname, you have to make it known. It isn't hard, but you have to decide early on.This is true for Williams, Elizabeths, Katherines, Isabels, and others whose names offer more than one nn option.
I have a good friend of mine name Lucenda with an "E". She says people call her sometimes by so many NNs Lucy or Lucie, Cindy. Also, her mother named her after a French lady that's why her spelling it's different and her MN is Colette.
i think it would be very rare, to the point of being a non-issue, that someone would just randomly call someone named lucinda cindy. And I can't imagine her ever being called cindy if she introduces herself as lucie.
cute name!

Re: Nickname for Lucinda
Not if she went by Lucie.
Cute name!

I agree with PPs who said if she goes by Lucie, that's what people will call her.
My name is Rebecca, and growing up I was Becky. Nobody called me Becca unless it was on purpose to irritate me.
I think it's a beautiful name and would say go for it!

Hells no! I have a strong dislike for someone whose nn is cindy... i would definately use lucie.
Great suggestion!?

I think Lucie is the natural nn for Lucinda. I don't think people will just come up with Cindy out of the blue at all.
In contrast, if you said you hated Lucie and only wanted people to call her Cindy, I would say Forget it! it is too obvious to shorten it to Lucie.
