Trying to Get Pregnant

Tilted Cervix

I posted an update about my doctors exam last week.  In my searches I have found very little about having a tilted cervix.

Is anyone else in this position (hahah pardon the pun)?  What were you told about it?  My doctor only told me that it is very common!

Looking forward to your responses.

Re: Tilted Cervix

  • I have a tilted uterus so not really the same. Sorry.

  • I was told that the opening of my cervix is facing backwards!  Who knew?!

*raises hand* I have a tilted cervix. My doctor said it isn't a big deal. Just whenever they checked my cervix, they always had a hard time finding it.

She struggled for half an hour trying to find mine.  I felt like someone had just had a boxing match with my insides!  She didn't seemed fazed by it all though.

I'm pretty sure if you have a tilted cervix, you have a tilted uterus.  If your cervix is facing towards your back, your uterus is probably tipped slightly towards the front.  You can have it tipped either way (retroversion or anterograde uterus).

What does this mean in terms of TTC?

  • I have a tilted cervix.  It is common and shouldn't effect any TTC or delivery. I've had 4 OB/GYNs so far in my life.  The first two never mentioned the tilted cervix.  The only thing I've noticed is that during my Pap test there is a lot of pressure down there.

I have a tilted Uterus and no dr has ever mentioned a tilted cervix, so i dont know if that is always true, but i'm not sure.

being tilted either place just may mean you might want to try different positions....then again im not completely sure on this either! haha

I think I read if you have retroversion (cervix toward the front, uterus towards the back), you should do it doggy style because it gives better contact.  As far as with what you have, I think just regular missionary is the way to go.  Do you have TCOYF?  I'm not trying to blow you off and say go back to the book, but I'm pretty sure there is a paragraph in there about it.  I would just get mine, but I let my friend borrow it.  Does your doc know you are TTC?  I'm sure if he/she felt that if your cervix position was an issue, you would have been told.  Also, I know from personal experience doing pelvics (I'm an ER PA), that if a woman's cervix happens to be really high up that day that she is having a pelvic, the cervix can be hard to find, especially if it is tilted.  And, if you don't have exactly the right size speculum, that can make it harder, but I know it totally sucks for the patient to feel like her insides have been scrambled because you can't find her cervix!  Sorry, I hope this helps!

  • You might ask skinnursemandee about this. I'm pretty sure I remember her talking about a tilted cervix and, if so, that obviously didn't keep her from getting k/u! Good luck!
