  • I am planning on working until the week before. I want to send the as much time as I can at home after I give birth.

  • Hopefully not until I am in labor and on my way to the hospital. I only get 6 weeks and since the baby has to be 6 weeks to go to daycare there isn't much wiggle room and I would like to be able to save my sick and vacation time in case baby is sick after that.

  • I am still trying to decide if I want to take off the week before, or work up until the day before. I was going to talk to my dr about what he thought. I am afraid if I take off too early, I will sit at home and scare myself thinking about labor and delivery.
  • Until I have the baby (unless doctor orders otherwise).  I worked until delivery with DS and it was fine.

  • I'm a special case... as a documentary filmmaker and motivational speaker, I'm taking my maternity leave from California- starting at the birth and for 6 weeks. Until then, however, I am abstaining from the additional nightclub bartending gigs (good money, but SUCH a slutty environment), and my last night is this weekend. I disguise my baby with ruffles on my mini dress.

Nice thing is, I can score some film editing jobs whilst sitting on my pregnant behind, and will be working for FI on several projects that we have in development with our production company.

I WISH I had a regular job sometimes, knowing that I have something solid would be great.

  • Thanks ladies.  I can't decide when to leave.  I don't get any paid leave (I am in PA. My company is in CA and they got rid of their paid maternity leave when CA started their own. PA doesn't have this plan...grrrrr), so I am trying to limit my time off to 8 weeks. I do work from home, but my job requires a lot of time.

I am due August 4th and July 31st seems like a good day to call it quits for a few weeks.

  • I plan on working until my water breaks on the new carpet.  Or until the doctor says I cant work anymore.
  • I plan on working up until I go into labor.  That's the plan anyway.

  • I am working until labor, if I can handle.  I work "on the road" and am a little nervous I will be far from home when I go into labor.  (Far meaning 2 hours from hospital.)  I just want the max time off with baby and not sitting on my tush waiting for baby.  I also don't know how bad it is going to be, though, driving and standing around waiting for docs signatures and leaving samples.  I might want/need to sit on my tush and wait for baby...

  • Just as an encouragement, I worked until the day I had my son, I literally worked until 11:00 am that day. You can do it!

Just give people the stink eye when they say, "I just knew you wouldnt be back today!"

I'm working on baby #2, so it's more of a non issue this time (SAHM)

  • dr. said i will have to go on bed rest at 32 weeks if everything goes right.....so hopefully until 32 weeks!
  • Thanks again ladies! My job is deadline based, so I know I will have to give my boss some notice and can't just tell her I will work until he shows up.  I also worry about my comfort level at that point. My job is pretty high-stress. I have talked to other new moms in my department and they said the stress is just unbearable towards the end.  I guess my boss doesn't give a rat's behind that you are about to give birth. I am not saying she should, but this woman has no sympathy whatsoever for anyone. Hmmmmm....
  • With both kids I took off about 6 weeks before they were born.  I had kidney stones, was achy and tired.  It was nice to relax.  I plan on doing the same this time.

  • 4 weeks before.  We get 4 weeks disability pay (100%) before the birth.  We can't move them until after the birth, so I may as well take them.
  • I am working right up to when I go into labor, unless told otherwise by my doc for some reason.

  • i am planning on working through july. ?my due date is sept. 2nd, but i can't see being able to keep up with the kids that i nanny for much past this point. ?in all reality, i would like to be not working now, but needed to work until late summer to make sure money was saved and bills got paid off. ?i also have no paid maternity leave. ?i am not going back to work after baby is born because we are moving in the near future.
  • As lame as it sounds, I think I'll probably only make it till mid-June (I'm due mid-August). I could carry on longer but I teach preschool and sometimes younger so I'm pretty much on my feet all day, usually 10 hour days (in a daycare), and I'm so tired by the end of the day that me & DH end up eating really bad cuz neither of us wants to cook (he works v long hours), and our house hasn't been cleaned in like a month! Plus, DH got a new job with better pay and I make next to nothing, so I think we'd both be happier if I stay home and act like a wife rather than slogging it out to the end. I'm planning to be a SAHM afterwards anyway, so what's an extra couple of months?
  • Up until the baby comes, as long as everything goes well.
