clothes....I am a planner!

Ok, so maybe I am a little crazy as far as planning...

I am wondering about what size clothes to have for my b/g twins to bring them home in?

Everyone says not to worry and they can just wear a diaper but these will likely be our only children....  I want to have them look nice, this is what I have pictured/dreamed of since a child you know?

I guess I have to wait until we know how big they grow, but it gets harder and harder to plan to go shopping with impending bedrest around the corner.  The thought of DH or someone else picking out clothes makes me mad.... I want to do this!

OK thanks for listening... I feel like a control freak now!  =(

Re: clothes....I am a planner!

  • My girls were born at 38 weeks 4 days weighing 5lbs 12 oz and 6lbs 6oz.  So they are on the big side of what you can reasonably plan on for twins.  I had bought newborn size outfits as coming home outfits.  They were absolutely swimming in them.  I wish I had gotten premie outfits instead.
  • I was planning on newborn size.  Preemie just seems so little and at least the tags say it's up to 5 lbs.  Since these babies are already almost 4lbs, I'm thinking that they will be over 5 lbs.  If they are little, I've already told my mom she's going to have to go pick up some cute preemie outfits for me to bring them home in!

  • Mine came home in preemie sleepers.  Since they were early and we didn't know we were having them when I got admitted to the hospital, we didn't have any sort of bag packed and they didn't have coming home outfits.  They were in the NICU for 2 weeks and I bought their outfits while they were there before they came home.

  • My girls were born at 34 weeks and were 4.3 and 4.10.  They were in the NICU for 2 weeks and we still brought them home in preemie clothes and they wore them for at least a month afterward. My son was born at 35 weeks and weighed 5.13  He wore preemie clothes for about a month too.  I think if you are concerned you could buy one set of preemie clothes and then get the same outfit in newborn size.. then take back the one you don't use.

  • 36 weekers here both over 5 lbs came home in and wore preemie for about 5 weeks

  • My two were born at 35 weeks and weighed 6lb 9oz and 6lb 5oz, so they were good sized babies - especially for premies.  I brought them home in the newborn size - it was big on them, but I don't know if they would have fit in premie.
  • My twins were huge - 7 lbs 6 oz and 7 lbs 8 oz. They wore the Gymboree snap up sleepers in the "under 7 lbs" size and those fit just fine. I'd probably plan on preemie outfits unless you have reason to believe yours will be monster sized babies :)
  • I am a planner too so I know how you feel, but clothes are so hard because you don't know how big they will be.  We were completely wrong with everything we bought size/season wise because our twins were born 10 weeks early at 3lbs.  My mom ran out and bought a bunch of preemie stuff as soon as they were born.  They are now 6lbs.4oz. and 6lbs.9oz. and are in some newborn stuff and are starting to wear some 0-3.  It really depends on how big they are.  I would get 1 preemie outfit and 1 newborn outfit as going home outfits.  We used a newborn one, but they were swimming in them.
