Adoption

Application if off!

We sent our application in yesterday. How long did it take for you to hear back from your agency? Also, did they call or just send you letter? I'm so impatient. I guess I better learn to be patient from this point on though. ;)

Re: Application if off!

  • Congrats. We heard pretty quickly, but honestly I can't remember exactly how long it took since it was more than 2 1/2 years ago. I think we were in phone contact the whole time though so we really weren't waiting to hear much in the way of news.

  • What an amazing feeling to take that first giant leap, isn't it?  Congratulations!!!!!

We heard back sometime between 2 and 4 weeks, but don't be shy about calling and inquiring if a couple weeks have gone by and you haven't heard.  I've learned that checking in can get you more information that you might expect.  Wink

  • First of all, congratulations! That's wonderful.

I'm new to this and am wondering how you decided on an agency and where you heard about your options. My DH and I are looking into international adoption.

  • As far as choosing, well it took us 7 months to finally make up our mind. We researched many many agencies and were going between 3 and then down to two. I went by references actually and the feel I got from the people at the agency. I have been in contact with one of the directors at the agency for over a month and have built a good relationship, it just felt right.

We are doing a domestic adoption but most of the agencies we researched did both international and domestic.

  • We're doing foster care to adoption.  The first time around, it was about 2-3 weeks before we heard from them...but we never ended up meeting with the social worker and we recently changed agencies.  Hopefully you'll contact you soon!!!
  • congrats on taking that first step!!!!
