Grapes- how small do you cut them?

I've been noticing I cut up grapes about 10 times smaller than I cut up other foods- I'll cut one large grape into 8 pieces. I think I'm overly paranoid. I also have been too scared to give raw apple yet. The kid has 11 teeth and can put 8 goldfish in his mouth at a time and be fine. Do I just need to chill?

  • I worry with grapes, too... with large ones, I cut them into 4s or 6s.  I actually started skinning whole apples and he eats them just fine, under verrry close supervision!

  • I'm too scared to even give them at all!  My daughter only has 1 tooth, so I cut her food in to very small pieces.  I'm a little paranoid!

  • I cut DS grapes into eight pieces - slice in half, then cut each half in fours.  Then he jams like four pieces in his mouth at once and gives me heart attack.
  • It depends on how big they are. I usually do quarters, but sometimes I'll do 6 or 8 pieces if they're really big grapes.?

I'm more concerned about the shape -- nothing that too rounded that could get stuck -- than the size. She does just fine with fairly big pieces of other things, but I'm extra careful with grapes.?

  • I cut them in half but then kind of squash them a bit with a spoon so they're more flat and not quite as rounded and slippery.  DS has 6 teeth and he seems to do fine.
  • I quarter them, even the big ones.

  • I just cut them in half.  I haven't found seedless grapes that got so big that I need to cut them any more than that.  I also give raw apples, but I cut those into slightly smaller pieces.  DS has all his molars, so he's pretty good about chewing things up.  I don't peel the apples, though.  The skin is healthy fiber!
