IUI and retroverted uterus

I just had my first IUI last week.  My doctor had a difficult time getting the catheter placed correctly due to my retroverted uterus.  It was a very painful and overall unpleasant experience.  Has anyone else had a problem like this?

On a side note, my doctor said that my uterus was retroverted enough that she thinks that is why we haven't been able to conceive naturally.  I was surprised because my whole life doctors have told me that it is a perfectly normal condition that wouldn't hinder my ability to have a baby. I was really surprised by her comment.

I wasn't told I had a retroverted uterus until I became pg. but we also used IUI and each time was VERY painful and would take them 2-3 times to insert correctly each time. Each time I was left bruised and sore for a few days. My current OB/GYN said it wasn't a contributing factor of our IF nor would it cause any pregnancy complications. Feel better and good luck!
