Baby Names

Ryan.. WDYT?

WDYT of Ryan? Is it a good boy name? And can I even consider this if DS#1 is called Jack? (Jack-RYan.. A little too much Harrison Ford IMO, or am I overthinking it?)

Re: Ryan.. WDYT?

  • I love the name Ryan, it's a really great name for a child to grow with, however, in my student teaching position last year in a 2nd grade classroom, there were 4 ryans, 3 boys, 1 girl. But check the popular name lists in your state, if that bothers you.

  • I really like the name Ryan.

Jack Ryan.. he's a character played by Harrison Ford in a series of guy/adventure movies - the hunt for red october etc. DH's favorite movie of all-time..

Anyway, I'd forgotten about Ryan as a girl name. That kind of ruins it for me..

I've never heard of the Harrison Ford character, so I wouldn't worry about that.  It is a bit of a unisex name, now, so if that's a deal breaker for you I guess that's that.

  • I love the name Ryan. Yes, people are using it for girls and I think some people will not want to use it because it's becoming unisex but it's a great, strong name for a boy.
  • Ryan is at the top of our list! I love it.

Yes, it's becoming girly..but I have only seen it once in my area...so it's no big deal. That and as a teacher...there's only 2 Ryans in my entire k-12 school...so no worries about that for me!

  • I love the name Ryan.

  • I like Ryan and I think it'd be fine with Jack as a sibling.

  • lol i have a Ryan and we say that too. Or sib Jake....Jake Ryan for 16 Candles fans. lol

Iove it! I think Jack and Ryan are great sib names!!! I say go for it!!! I get lots of comments from people all of the time of how great of a name Ryan is.

and ps. if you're concerned about popularity, it is a popular name. I think it's been on the top 20ish or so for a while now. But boys call each other by their last names anyways alot of the time. Heck, I was the only person in my grade with my name and I still was called by my last name as a nickname all through school...still do actually by my friends.

    Good luck!!!
