Pronunciation of the name Piers?

Is it pronounced like "pearce/ pierce" or do you pronounce the -s at the end? I have a coworker whose son is named Piers and from the way she pronounced it I thought it was spelled Pierce until I saw it written. And if it is pronounced "pierce" then what spelling do you like best, Pearce, Pierce, or Piers? Thanks.

Re: Pronunciation of the name Piers?

  • The first time I saw it written I thought it was pronounced like two or more docks.  But I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be pronounced Pierce.  I prefer the spelling Pierce.

  • Piers I say with a Z sound at the end like peers (peerz)... or Pier one.

If you want an s sound at the end, I'd go with Pierce, which I think is a nice name. Very blueblood/preppy, but still cute especially if that is what you're going for.?

  • Piers Anthony is a famous fantasy author, he's a two or more docks pronunciation.

  • In England (where this name is more common), Piers is pronounced like two "piers".

(I know two british guys named Piers).

  • Piers is pronounced PEERZ. Pierce is a variant of it. Pearce is a variant of Pierce. I like Piers or Pierce.
  • I would definitely pronounce it "Pierce", with the same spelling.
