Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

What age did/will you stop using onesies?

DD still wears a onesie under her clothing every day.  Except for the summer when she wore something sleeveless.  The onesie also stays on under her PJ's.

Re: What age did/will you stop using onesies?

  • We are still using them almost everyday here.  I just like that his belly stays covered.  He is very active and his shirt would be all over the place.  Onesies also help keep his pants on since he has a little waist!  As long as I kind find them in his size he will probably wear them.

  • Right around 12 months, we've never layered, so I would probably still use them for that if needed, but as part of an outfit, we stopped around 12 months.
  • We stopped using them when she outgrew her 18 mo. size onesies. We decided that we didn't want to buy any larger ones, since we likely won't be putting them on her during the summer.

We still have a few patterned onesies that we put on her as shirts every once in a while, though.

  • We stopped when we started PT.  I wouldn't buy them after the 18 mo size for this reason.

  • DD still wears a lot of onesies, I like that her belly stays covered. I think we will continue to use them until they stop making them in her size or when she's ready to be potty trained
  • DS is 18 month clothes now and we have a bunch of onesies in 24 month size, too.  I will stop using onesies when we start potty training or when he outgrows the 24 month ones that we already have (whichever comes first).

  • Probably around 14 months as she pretty much outgrew all her onesies and shirts worked fine for her.
  • I dislike seeing diapers peeking out over pants - I don't know why, just do. ?So we'll wear them as long as possible... ?

  • We don't layer, so we're slowly moving to t-shirts as it gets warmer.  I personally hate the snaps of onsies, and like just being able to pull his pants off to change him.

The only downside to not using a onsie is that his pants and shorts are more likely to fall down without a shirt helping hold them up!

  • It seems like onesies get harder to find, the larger the size. DD is just now getting too big for the 12-month size, so I want to get some 18-month onesies -- we layer pretty much every day and she almost always wears a short-sleeve onesie under her pjs.?

I'd say that once she outgrows the 18-month size is probably when we'll stop. But I like having something underneath so her belly doesn't hang out when her shirts ride up. ?

  • We've stopped. He had some 6-12 month ones, and we've been gradually switching to just t-shirts as he's outgrown those. He has like two of them right now, and they are both a little short (he wears cloth diapers, so that adds some bulk), and I find it easier to check his diaper for poop without them. His shirts don't ride up as much as I thought they would, either.

  • we use them at home, but not when we go out.  When we go out he's in a t-shirt and pants/shorts.  He's in 18 month onsies right now and I plan to buy the 24 month when he outgrows them. They are great to wear around the house--- especially if they get dirty from food.

  • will stop using them, when we start potty training.
  • we used them more as layering pieces (it was a COLD winter in pittsburgh this year!), and now have stopped mostly because it's warmer out and because she's just about 18 months and starting to seem too big for them.

  • I don't think I've NOT used a onesie since last summer when it was boiling out.  He has one on during the day under his shirt and under his pjs for bed.  Granted, I live in Michigan so that probably makes a difference.

I like that his belly isn't exposed and getting cold and they help hold his pants up.

  • Maddy only wears them under her pjs so she can't get her diaper off. Although, that's not working anymore either so she probably won't wear them very much longer. We stopped using onesies as an outfit at about 15 months.
