Can you freeze a previously frozed veggie?

I got frozen peas to make for DD and I found I need to puree and strain them so she'll eat them.  To make it easier I'd like to make ahead and freeze in ice cube trays.

Is it ok to cook, puree, stain and then refreeze the peas to defrost and eat later?

  • Super Baby Food book says a big no to that one....I have to buy jarred green beans, sweet peas, peaches, squash instead of make them because of that reason! Its really difficult to find fresh produce here, sucks I know but I wouldn't risk it....

  • um, I do all the time!  I've seen it reccomended by other people and I'm pretty sure on wholesomebabyfood.com as well.  They're not cooked, so you're cooking and freezing.

  • im pretty sure i read that this can be done and is the 2nd best option to fresh produce because they're flash frozen

  • Pg. 165 of Super Baby Food has a whole section on Baby food safety, it says "Do not make baby food from frozen vegetables or other frozen foods and re-freeze it using the Food Cube Method. ?Baby food should not be frozen more than once"....shrug...maybe use your discretion on this one? ?If you keep things super clean and don't let anything sit out for too long, it might be ok. ?The author of this book tends to be super anal about stuff....

Yeah.  I use that book as a guide.  But, what I read in there andon wholesomebabyfoods it seems to me that if its flash frozen raw and never cooked and you cook, puree and freeze immediately it should be just fine.

      Thanks!

  • Ok, I just read that link...that makes me feel a little bit better that I can make more stuff instead of buying the jarred food! ?I have more room in my freezer to store food than in my pantry, so this works!! ?

I just heard it wasn't good.  But, I think the consensus is if you are using raw, flash-frosen food its fine.  I'm going to do that with these peas!
