Besides prunes what else helps with constipation?

DD doesn't like prunes and she is a little constipated and I want to nip it in the bud.  She hasn't had bananas in days (which I think started this whole thing) so it isn't getting worse but it isn't getting better.

  • put in a rectal thermometer. it can help relieve the pressure, and consider yourself warned, because it works instantaneously.

you can also add in a tablespoon of caro syrup to formula/bm/water. we've had success with both dark and light.

  • apple juice......
  • apple juice never worked for truitt and my pedi actually said no to the caro syrup. so, i would mix prunes with a little yogurt to get him to eat it.

  • Apple juice worked great with Aidan - my pedi suggested prune juice if the apple ever didn't work out.
  • gerber actually makes an apple prune juice, it tastes a little better then the regular prune.

also addie used to like prune butter, it was a little sweet and just a small spoonful would do it.

otherwise i heard don't do the caro thing either, but cider is also good.

  • Owen was like that too for a little while. We did prunes but he didn't take to them after a while. Now every morning I mix yo baby yougurt and a little oatmeal cereal. He has been regular ever since. It is now his breakfast routine. HTH.

  • Any of the p's mentioned above.  DS eats pears daily to ward it off.  Try mixing with cereal.
  • Another big constipator is sweet potatoes. And apple sauce - I know it's weird because apple juice has the opposite effect, but apple sauce is very binding.

Fruits that start with P are the loosening ones: prunes, plums, peaches, pears.

  • You know M is still on her fruit strike so I can't get her to eat prunes either.  I mix some in with her formula in her bottle though to get her to take it, or mix it with her yogurt (less successful) but she has to get them daily as well.
  • Ground up flaxseeds help with constipation and are healthy.

  • blueberries.

gerber makes blueberry/apple. that used to help DD alot.

or just adding a little prune puree to her applesauce would help as well.

as she has gotten older, the blueberries are one of her favorite things. she's in fact eating a bowl of them now as she hasn't pooed in a day or two. gotta get things a movin...

  • If your baby is eating cereal and anything iron enriched, delete or reduce that in the diet as well as adding on the p fruits.  Cereal and iron can really stop up the works.
