Preemies

Hey ladies

I just came across this board and I wish I would have known about it 7 months ago. My daughter just turned 7 months on the thirteen and was born at 33 weeks. We were very fortunate she needed no assitance with breathing or eating. She stayed in the hospital for 10 days and had a 7 day course of antibotics due to me having an infection while I was in labor. I went into labor at 31 weeks and they were able to stop it, but my water had already broken. I started to get a fever and show signs of infection at 33 so they induced me. She has done well since she came home. She was a little eaisly overstimulated at first, but other than that did well. I'm sure this board would have saved my sanity the first couple months when I was so nervous and full of questions.

I would like some advice. She just turned 7 months and is developmentally between her actual and gestational age. I would say around 6 months. She is 16 lbs and just started her first solid food last week. She drinks four oz of formula every two hours. She is still waking up every two hours at night. Has anyone else had this problem. I am dying for a full nights sleep. I was hoping when she started solid food she would begin sleeping longer, but it didn't make any difference.

Re: Hey ladies

  • The thing to remember is all babies are different and your LO probably just needs to eat more often. There is actually a "club" on the 6-12 month board called "Sleep is for Wussies" because they all have LO's that still get up multiple times during the night.

My DS was born at 24 weeks and spent 4 months in the NICU. As soon as he came home he was sleeping through the night consistently 10-12 hours. He still is and he was EBF for 10 months. I know there are a few moms on the 6-12 month board that wonder if maybe their babies aren't STTN because they are EBF, but my son did right from the beginning.

We weaned him at 10 months actual and started solids at 4 months adjusted and nothing changed. That being said, my next baby will probably be up every 2 hours and never nap! Every baby is different.

You do need some sleep though, Mama! Is your DH willing to help out one or two nights a week to give you a break?

  • My DS is 9.5 months actual, 7.5 months adjusted and he still gets up 1-2 times per night. I really think for him its an issue of not being able to self-soothe, since he eats 30 ounces of formula a day and 3 solid meals a day. anyway, you are not alone!
