Vaccine friendly pediatrician in the KC area

I am looking for a pediatrician who is vaccine friendly. We chose not to give our baby a hepatitis B shot and now we can not find a pediatrician who is willing to see her. There are other shots we will not be giving her at the times they are suggested so this is going to be an ongoing battle. I do know there are pediatricians out there who do not refuse to see babies because of this so if anyone knows of any in the KC area PLEASE PLEASE let me know who they are. THANKS!!

Update: Thank you for those who suggested Dr. Slaymaker. We had an appointment with him today and LOVED him. He's perfect! Thanks again!!

  • Our Pedi is great- Dr. Lance Slaymaker @ Village Pediatrics in PV (71st/Mission Rd). We delayed the HepB at birth and have delayed a few others, may be opting out of 1 or two altogether. He's totally cool with whatever you want to do.

Dr. Slaymaker is our doctor too and he is excellent! ?I highly recommend him. ?We delayed the Hep B at birth after talking with him at length about it. He is very supportive!?

  • THANK YOU SOO MUCH!! I knew there had to be a pediatrician around town who was open to this. I'm going to give the office a call first thing Monday morning. Thanks again!!!
  • We go to Village Pediatrics, as well, but see Dr. Amanda Hostettler.  We started out with Dr. Shipman (I work at Children's Mercy and knew him when he was a resident there).  He was sooo laid back, which actually was almost too laid back for my style and every time my daughter really needed something (she was hospitalized with RSV at 3 weeks of age), Dr. Hostettler was on call.  It was a natural progression to switch to her as our primary pediatrician, as she cared for Audrey at some pretty critical times and I've never regretted it.  They are all very good about listening to your concerns and coming up with a plan that works for you.  By all means, give them a call on Monday morning.  The other perk is that they have evening and weekend urgent care hours.
