What do you know about the Riccaro Como seats?

Since we didn't find the Britax Boulevard at the price we wanted we searched and found that a company that makes some of the best racing seats for grown ups is now making convertible car seats for kids.  We found the recall on their Young Sport but are actually interested in the Como instead.  I can't find any info on the Como through Baby Bargains and don't have my membership to Consumer Reports anymore. DH is very excited about this and wants to consider it but I want to know more.

Do you have any info on this car seat?

Re: What do you know about the Riccaro Como seats?

  • I just checked Consumer Reports, and they don't have anything about the Racaro Como carseats.

I'm not positive, but I think MassaRN has them?

  • We have them, though we have not used them yet.  They are AWESOME!  The materials and construction are super high quality.  I checked out quite a few carseats in the store and these ones are hands down nicer in look and construction than any others I have seen.  I had found reviews somewhere on these but I can't find them now.  They were rated really well though.  I read a ton of reviews as well before I bought ours and found a lot of good comments.

Riccaro makes seats for luxury cars, so they are known for their quality.

  • I don't have them but wanted to look it up to see what they looked like and found this. There are some reviews.

  • I'm not a MoM, but I was just browsing the boards killing time while trying to get my baby to sleep and saw this post.  I have a Recaro Como and Britax Marathon (my son uses the Marathon now).  I actually prefer the Britax, but the Recaro is a nice seat too.  It has some drawbacks though.  There was a recall on all Recaro Signo and Como seats, but it was for a very simple fix.  If you get a seat with a recent manufacture date that won't be an issue.

The straps are a bit twisty compared to the Britax, they are easy to untwist everytime, but it's just annoying to have to do it.  It is also harder to install rear-facing.  Depending on your vehicle it could be very difficult to put you child in the seat while rear-facing.  The base is high and the sides of the seat are higher than most so you have to raise the child up higher to get them in, if you have a low roof to your vehicle you wouldn't have much room to work with to get them in.  Another annoying thing is that the straps seem to fall straight down, not out.  That means everytime you set your child in the seat you have to fish them out from behind your child's back.  The Marathon straps have little velcro tabs that keep them from doing this.

Despite all of these issues (and the are relatively minor for me since we have a minivan), I like the seat.  My 2 year old daughter is very comfortable in the seat and I feel like she is very well protected.  I
