My son is almost 2 and 1/4 and has been an excellent sleeper for night and naps. He sleeps from about 8 pm until 7 am and then usually a 2 and 1/2 hour nap. Suddenly yesterday he would not nap. He's in a big bed so he is constantly getting out...opening and shutting his door, going into his brother's room and waking him up, etc. I thought it was just a one time thing but today...same thing! Plus, we had been outside playing for almost 2 hours so I know he was tired. is this a phase??? Please tell me yes because I can't bear for him to give up his nap quite yet. BTW-If your DC did give up his/her nap what did you do all day? I also have a 9 month old so we're tied down to the house during his two naps. Thanks!
Re: 2 yr old suddenly not napping?
I don't think he would go from taking a 2 1/2 hour nap to no nap at all. I'd think his nap would gradually get shorter. DD's naps were only 1 hour long when I just stopped putting her down. And now that she doesn't nap anymore, we just have "quiet time"... but she's such a good girl, it really doesn't bother me that she doesn't nap. She plays really well by herself. But when I need time to myself, I just put in a movie so she's occupied and i'm good to go.
Oh and just a side note- I put those door knob/handle childproof things on DD's door so she can't escape. LOL. And when DD started to play during nap time, I would tell her that it's fine if she doesn't want to nap but she's going to be in her room for 1 hour and have quiet time. If she doesn't want to sleep, fine, but she still has to be in her room and play quietly.
