Since working with an OT in my classroom for my kids, I have learned a lot of things over the last 4 years. One thing is to never let your kids sit like a "W" (bottom is on the floor and legs are on the side of them pointing towards the back) It is not good for them and could limit the strength of their trunk, hips and thighs.
I've seen a few siggies lately that have their child sitting like this and K (when she is looking with me) screams "mommy, tell that boy/girl no "W" sitting!
I never knew it was bad to sit like that until I started working with an OT.
Re: FYI without trying to sound too mean
Good to know! But its all relative. I lived my whole childhood sitting like that and haven't exercised since I was 17, yet my Dr thinks I'm a cyclist given my thigh strength.
So some of us must survive it :-)
Yes, my BF is a physical therapist and told me the same thing.
You couldn't be mean if you tried
I do try, it just never works out:)
Just another FYI it's more damaging when it's done by children 2 and under before their muscles develop fully and before they are walking most of the time. It's not great for any kid but older kids tend to be moving so much that they aren't sitting like that for long.
