We had two infant seats and one convertible seat all in a row, now we have two convertibles and a booster all the way across.
When I used to keep my nephew, who is 6 weeks older than my twins, there were times when we did three infant seats across. It's doable, but I wouldn't do it regularly.

I'm not sure safe-wise, but for merely fitting them it it will entirely depend on which vehicle you have. Not all small SUV's are the same (obviously), so they may or may not fit. What vehicle do you have?
Re: can you fit 3 carseats next to each other
No, you would need a larger size suv and even then it is difficult to get three on one seat.
I had my mini van, two more years to go.
With infant seats the bases are to large and it is not recommended by the mfg's to place three on one seat, as you can not secure all three properly.
most converitables are too wide as well to fit three comfortably and trust me you do not want three two year olds sitting that close to eachother.
the hitting etc.
