NBR: ADT alarm users

Do you have one?

Is it good? If not, why?

How much do you pay?

Is it reliable, since I remember being in the news bc they failed to detect a burglary or something.

TIA

Re: NBR: ADT alarm users

  • We cancelled ADT because our alarm went off when DH & I were out one day and they left a voice mail at the house.  That was the extent of ADT's service.  Nice - good thing no one was holdign a gun to our head or anything.

We now have Sloman's Shield and we have more coverage, a better system and pay less money.

    I woudl never recommed ADT.

  • We have Brinks. My cousin works for them. seriously, not because he works for them or anything, cause really he doesnt promote them in anyway or praise them just cause he works for them. When he installed ours we asked him what makes Brinks better, he told us that not to long ago some lady that ADT wanted to switch so he went over to get her started, and she's like look this is why I want to switch. She intentionally set the alarm off, twenty min. passed by and nobody ever bothered to call.

  • We had ADT for 5 years - two different houses. ?We never had any problems with the alarm itself, but then it was never set off. ?We had loads of problems with billing and transferring/canceling service. ?

I don't remember how much we paid for installation, but our monthly cost was $30. ??

  • We have MATRIX, not sure if its local or not. We priced ADT when we were pricing security systems and ADT was super expensive. Now I'm glad we didn't get it after reading some of these replies. We are happy with MATRIX. One day last summer, I accidentally set the alarm off when I was home on my lunch break. It was right after we got it so I didn't know how to turn it off (the code wasn't turning it off). Within a minute, I not only got a call from the company, but a few minutes later a police officer arrived at my house to check things out. It was a PITA, but good to know they have great service if a true emergency would ever arise. I feel a lot safer having a security system in the house, especially now that we have a baby in the house. We pay about $39/month.

  • we have ADT at the moment. we had it installed during a promo they were running so we only paid like $200. Monthly its $40 but they are starting to irritate me because the motion sensors randomly go off and we have had the back door sensor replaced twice for failing to communicate with the key pad.

  • We have Monotronic. So far no complaints. We pay $40/month. We signed up during a promotion and got a motion sensor and two door sensors installed for free. We upgraded the key pad and that cost $200.
