Should I transition ds to daybed or full bed?

We were planning on transitioning his crib to a full bed because we'll use his mattress for the baby's crib. But now we are thinking that may be too much for him and just making his bed into a daybed instead & buying a new mattress for baby's crib. Should we make his crib into the daybed or go straight into a full size bed? Any advice will be helpful. Thanks

We started with the daybed. I think it's lower than what the height of the full bed will be which makes me feel better and overall, it seems to be more of a gradual change for DD.

We transformed hers around x-mas and will probably move her to the full within 6 months of that (by June).
