Slim Fast?

Ok, I know this might get me flamed, but let me preface it with I AM NOT TRYING TO LOOSE WEIGHT!  Quite the opposite, I am trying to be more conscious of how much protein I get in a day and I've been doing really poorly.  So I was looking at a slim fast that I have in the fridge from pre-preg and it's got 10 grams of protien in it!  That is like a jackpot for me at this point!

So I'm just wondering if you all know of/can think of any reason why drinking a slimfast a day would be a bad thing?  I'll probably pick up some ensure this weekend, but until I have time to go shopping-will the slimfast work?

Ok-flame away!  Wink

Re: Slim Fast?

  • No SlimFast, do Carnation Instant Breakfast with your milk in the morning (the chocolate's really good) or Boost energy drinks.?

  • No flames from me, but I would definitely check with your doctor first.  Sometimes those weight loss aids have ingredients that whack up your heart rate.

In college I was mildly addicted to Metabolife and Slim Fast - it was all I "ate" my sophomore and junior year.  I would get the shakes, my heart would be racing all day (and night), etc.  I'd just be careful of what I put in my body that's any time of weight loss related product right now.

It can't hurt to err on the side of caution!

  • Aren't Slim Fast shakes suppose to be a meal supplement?  Which probably means it has a lot of calories.  I could be wrong, I've never had them.  But there are so many ways to add protein to your diet, I don't think Slim Fast is the way to go.
  • I was curious, so I looked it up.  Didn't realize they had so little calories.  As a supplement it is okay, not as a meal.

Here is one source I found:

  • Thanks grins&giggles.  That was kind of what I was thinking, but wasn't quite sure.  I'll look at other supplements this weekend-it's just convienient since I have them in house already.  And no-I have no intention of using it as a meal-just a supplement.  Just looking for some extra protein that I can keep down.

  • I wouldn't drink it, just incase.  I'm sure you know but when you go shopping, there are some awesome protein shakes out there.  Whey protein or egg protein shakes breaks down easily.  There's is also a new Clif Bar called "Builders" which has 20 grams of protein (get the mint chocolate chip--tastes like Girl Scout Thin Mints).  I also keep cottage cheese in the fridge--a cup (which is a ton, prob too much) has about 24 grams of protein.  I'm a vegetarian (well, now a cheating vegetarian) and think about protein grams every single meal.
