My thoughts on the miracle blanket

So, after reading the posts yesterday, I went out and got a Miracle Blanket! ?I do indeed like it better than the swaddle me, although for us, there was no difference in sleeping with it (at least on the first night). ?She could not kick her legs out and didn't "travel" as far across the crib. ?However, it didn't hold her legs as tightly as I had hoped, as her kicking often wakes her up!! ?Overall, the swaddleme is easier to put the baby into and is a bit warmer for cool nights (even the lightweight ones), but the Miracle Blanket keeps her more confined and will be better as the weather gets warmer. ?The only problem is that it doesn't fasten anywhere, so the end of it got stuck between L and me when I was putting her back in the crib and I had to partially re-wrap her!

Thanks for the feedback yesterday - I'm glad I got it.?

  • It's easier to use once you get used to it.  It took me a little while before I could do it perfectly and more than once I had to rewrap her before putting her down.  You'll be an expert at using it in no time!

  • I do agree with pp about getting used to wrapping.  It takes a little bit, but once you get the hang of it, you'll find it really easy.

Nicholas was a leg kicker.  This is part of what was keeping him awake or waking him up.  I know they are not supposed to be on their bellies, but this is the only way I  could get him to stay asleep because he wasn't kicking his legs up.  This is when I went out and got the angelcare monitor.  Both the miracle blanket and angelcare monitor really helped me out to a certain point with sleeping.

  • Just fyi- swaddling blankets aren't meant to secure their legs (those are supposed to be free for their hips, it's not good to wrap up their legs), they are really just meant to secure their arms.
  • I've had to ditch all swaddling blankets.  DS is a bit of a Houdini and gets out of everything.  Guess I will just have to wait it out.
  • You'll be  pro in no time. I could re-swaddle carter nice and tight in it in the dark no problems after a few weeks. The key to the MB is to make sure it's a nice tight wrap.
  • Warner didn't like the Miracle blanket at ALL when we first brought him home from the hospital, so I kind of forgot about it until you guys started talking about it again the other day. So a couple of nights ago when he was flailing around and being fussy, I decided to re-introduce it and OMG, it worked so well!! He hated the swaddling process, but looooves the end result. He calmed right down and after about 10 minutes, he was perfectly content and slept a full 2.5 hours until he woke up to be fed again. So now for 3 nights in a row, while swaddled, he has slept perfectly soundly between feedings (I hope I'm not jinxing myself) and so have I!
  • Oh yeah they will FIGHT it at first but give them 10 minutes and they'll realize how much they love being swaddled nice and tight! They should put that warning on the blanket, it will suck at first but it truly is a miracle. I cried when we stopped using it at 5 months, lol.
  • I'm a MB used, but I don't know what my problem is...I think it is a pain to use (though I do like the end result).  I've been using it for a week, and have yet to master it.  In the middle of the night, I feel like I have to get out of bed, smooth down the comforter (maybe moving my dog first), and spread the thing out nice and straight (and now baby is fussing as he's lying on the bed waiting for me to "set up" the MB).  And then baby has to get contorted a little bit as I struggle to get the arm flaps tucked under him.  And now I am fully awake, and it takes me that much longer to get back to sleep once baby and MB are situated.  But I stick with it cause it works.  But if you can use this thing in your sleep, you are more woman than I :-)

I think I may have shed a tear too! Smile
