3rd Trimester

Other Bumpies advice that ANNOYS you...

This is flame free- so calm down- LoL and I'm not talking about naming people... I mean advice that is given that is more annoying then helpful!

Ex: It bugs the sh!t out of me when somebody asks a question or an opinion on something and the first response that they get is "Call your OB" (like your a freaken idiot for not thinking about this in the first place)... Ok... if any of you are like me- I am too hard headed to call my OB every time I have a question, because I know that half the time- it's nothing and obviously if I was that worried about it...I wouldn't be sitting here asking a bunch of strangers in the 1st place~LoL... sometimes- I just want to hear other people's experiances or thoughts on what I am going through...

Anyways- I have noticed this a lot lately and maybe I am the only one here...but hey- it is what it is...And no worries- no GBCN here- you ladies are stuck with me- LoL! Hahahaha Stick out tongue

  • Pet peeve for life (not just the bump): People giving advice when they don't know what they are talking about. Repeating things that other random people who also don't know what they are talking about doesn't count as being well informed. If you don't know the CORRECT answer, then keep your mouth shut.

  • This relates mostly to 1st trimester one and will likely get me flamed, but here goes.

It annoys me when the response to questions re: soft cheeses/lunch meat are "Of course you can eat them, it's fine/Your baby won't have 3 heads/Everything in moderation".

If you think it's a stupid question, tell them WHY - explain how small the risk is, that most doctors say it's ok and that most cheese in the US is pasteurized (or just that they're stupid for posting this question on a message board). But don't imply that there's absolutely no risk at all or that "moderation" is the key, because with listeria, it's actually not, technically, one piece of tainted meat could be very damaging, it's just INCREDIBLY unlikely that anyone would ever ingest that piece of tainted meat. And some doctors do warn against it, even if yours didn't. Not saying the advice should be that these foods are bad, generally they're fine, but if someone is concerned I think it's better to be clear about what the risk is and how unlikely it is than to just incorrectly tell them it's 100% ok or ok in moderation when their doctor (or their own risk tolerance) might disagree.

Sorry, just my personal pet peeve.

  • It kind of bugs me when people respond with "Google it". I realize that sometimes people post stupid questions that could easily be answered through Google, but sometimes you just want to get a good variety of people's opinions and personal experiences. And sometime you are a little fearful of Googling something like "swollen vagina" or other possible porn producing words. :)
