She just emailed me that L&D told her that the baby is fine, he's just really low which is causing the pressure and making it hard for her to feel movement.  They said the swelling is just normal swelling even though it came on suddenly and they've told her no lifting (I'm guessing that's what they're blaming the backache on).

Thanks for the good thoughts everyone!  I'm so glad it turned out to not be signs of preterm labor.
