3rd Trimester

GD girls.....???? (those on meds)

Does anyone know the max amount of Glyburide (sp) that they will give you?

They keep upping my meds (like every 4 days) because my fasting levels won't go down.  However I notice that I am crashing after lunch (eating the diet and keeping track etc.)

Here are my "averages"

Fasting = 110

Breakfast = 150

Lunch = 60

Dinner = 80

I take my sugars 1 hour after each meal.  I am eating mostly protein and a small carb - snacking 2x a day with a protein/carb snack (cheese and crackers or apple pb) and I just can't regulate.

I take 5 mg of gly. at night and 3.75 30 minutes before breakfast.

  • Oh and I notice before my snack after lunch if I am shaking I will take my sugar and it's in the 40's.  Once it was 39.

  • I have no GD advice, but your daughter is beautiful!
  • looks like you are high after breakfast and sometime your sugars will drop more after a high. your body will produce extra insulin to get rid of the sugar and since you are on meds it may cause a low.

    test before you eat lunch see what the numbers are. you may need lunch to include a fast acting sugar like milk or juice.

    in general if you are getting lows at a certain time it is good to test before and after you eat to see how much they have gone down.

     with any lows call your DR for a med adjustment.

    i am a regular diabetic and can change my own insulin, but it is not good to go any amount of time on the wrong med amount.

  • I just stared this week with testing, and have had low numbers all week, And by low I mean normal -ranging from 79-102 being the highest so I don't think I will be needing any meds.

    Did they tell you to test 1 hour after eating? I have to test 2 hours after. My specialist said if my numbers were too high I would have to add more carbs. You might have to have your diet adjusted. I would rather try that first then to add more meds.

  • What if you leave out your carb serving for breakfast? I did that this morning and I'm finally in range. Check it before lunch too, just to know how much it changes so you can let your doc know.

    Yikes! ?39 is really low, I would definitely mention that to your doctor. I keep an OJ with me or else those glucose tablets and if I start to feel shaky, I have them handy. I have the same problem with my numbers being a little elevated sometimes, and other times they are below what they should be (usually no lower than 60). ?

  • The max gly they'll give you is 20mg. That's 10 pills at a time. (if you are taking the 2.5). Twice a day.

    I was up to 10mg at night (2 5mg pills) and 5mg in the morning.
