Swelling ??

How much swelling is normal (feet)?  I go to the doctor tomorrow so I will ask then but I thought I would ask here in case anyone else has ever dealt with a lot of swelling.  I took a picture of them to see how bad they really are and they are much worse then I thought.

Re: Swelling ??

  • I guess I should add that it is working it's way up my calves and they are pretty red/sometimes purplish.  I can't call my doctor today since it is almost 6 pm so I would have to go into the hospital to see the midwives there (they phone number for the midwives does not have an English speaking person always there so it is advised to go in with serious concerns).

  • I am not sure how much swelling is normal, I know that I have had issues with swelling since about 25weeks. My dr checks every time I am there for appointments to keep an eye on it.  If it gets to out of hand, it could be a sign of pre-e.

  • Elevate your legs.  Where do you live as I noticed you said its nearly 6pm.  Do you not have out of hours doctors you could call?

If you're worried you should go to the hospital to get your BP checked.

  • The swelling in my legs and feet has been really bad lately.  My doctor checks me everytime I have an appointment, but she has said there is not much that can be done.  My weight jumped a bunch in the last week, but my blood pressure has been normal at every visit, so she wasn't overly concerned.

Having swelling in a weight-bearing part of your body is not abnormal.  It's a concern when your hands and face suddenly swell.

  • I am in Germany.  The after hour number I have usually does not have an English speaking person around, the hospital does though.  I am super close to the hospital.  I sit with my legs up as much as I can and I have not been on my feet all that much lately.  I haven't been worried about my blood pressure until I seen my feet today.  It is more one foot/leg then the other.

I think I will have my friend that knows a good amount of German come over and we will call the midwives.  I have an appointment tomorrow but it is not until 5 pm.

This pregnancy has been sooo different from my other 2 so it seems like I am doing it for the first time sometimes.

  • I had the exact same symptom yesterday.  My right foot and leg is very swollen.  My left is not.  At my normal appointment last night, my doctor sent me to the hospital for an ultrasound on my leg.  She thought it might be a clot.  Thankfully it was not.  I would not fool around with it.  Go get it checked out at the hospital just to be sure everything is okay.  She told me if it was a clot, they would have induced me last night because you cannot take blood thinners while pregnant.
  • I don't know how much is normal, but I do know this... even with daily exercise, frequent lower leg massages from DH, and a constant effort to keep my feet elevated when I'm sitting, I still can't fit more than half of my shoes on my feet.

If I, God forbid, miss a day on the treadmill, my cankles are so HUGE the next day that I can't get any of my shoes on, except this one ballet slipper-like grandma pair that I bought for this purpose.  Wink

I complained to my doc about it, and he encouraged me to eat watermelon and avoid processed foods.  I've been eating watermelon and it hasn't helped at all... avoiding processed foods, well, that's practically impossible Wink
