Spotting at 15 weeks

I'm freaked out here. And of course I look in the books and it range from 'normal' to threat of late miscarriage. It's not a lot, but it's pink/brownish and I haven't had it before and am starting to have some cramping (not severe though). At first I just blamed it on intestinal cramps as things seemed to act up, probably because I was so nervous, but now I'm thinking it's just cramps. So if anyone has had this and can give me some reassurance, it will be appreciated.

I called the nurse and she said that usually the dr. wants to 'wait and see', but she'd call back if he wanted me to come in. Ugh, is that normal protocol?

I just want that crystal ball that tells me everything is ok.

Re: Spotting at 15 weeks

  • i had some light brown spotting at 13w. My OB had me come into the ER (it was a saturday and she at the hospital on call otherwise she would have had me go to the office).

she did a quick US and then checked my cervix- said everything was fine/normal... that there were some bumps on my cervix- almost like little pimples- that can pop and bleed (soooo gross)- and that was what caused it.

if you are having cramping i would demand to be seen. I had no cramping and she still wanted to see me.  It's probably nothing- some cramping and spotting is common- but they shouldn't just dismiss it either.

while you are waiting - drink lots of water and lay on your side.

let us know how it goes!

  • I had spotting early in the 2nd trimester too.  LIGHT -- like just on the toilet paper one time light.  I FREAKED out and called and demanded to be seen.  If you are having cramping and spotting call them back and tell them you want to be checked and you want an u/s.

I am sure it is nothing -- it's very common to spot.  However, if you are like most ladies you will not calm down until you get checked.  Call and insist on it.

FWIW I never had spotting again during pg.  OH -- have you had sex in the past 24 hours?  If so the I really, really wouldn't worry.  That's probably what caused it.

  • I'm on the "better safe than sorry" boat.  I would get it checked out, if only for my piece of mind.
