3rd Trimester

First month-baby clothes and supplies inventory?

So, I took inventory after our baby shower of things that we'll be using for the first month.  I'm wondering how many clothes, diapers, etc....everyone has to see if we have enough.  I counted:

-10 sleep gowns

-2 newborn size outfits (one onesie, one sleeper)

-10-12 0-3 onesies

-12 or 13cute oufits in 0-3 (not super practical-things like little plaid overalls, etc...)

-9 or 10 bibs, 6 burp cloths

-8 pairs of newborn/0-3 socks

-2 jumbo packs newborn diapers, 2 jumbo packs size 1 diapers

-2 large packs of wipes

-washcloths, 2 newborn pacifiers, all bathing supplies, 5 hooded towels

-2 bottles (we know we need to get more-getting 4 or 5 more)

I am worried that we don't have enough newborn and 0-3 onesies, bibs, and burp cloths.  Diapers I'm not as worried about because DH can walk to a CVS it's so close if we start to run out.  What do you think?

  • I think you probably have enough 0-3 outfits. You could always grab another back on onesies if need be.

  • All that looks good.  I would make sure you have some mittens and some good swaddling blankets.

What hospital are you going to deliver?  I was just wondering since you are in Ashburn.

  • I would get more onsies, just so you don't have to do laundry as much. you are only at 30 weeks - I imagine you will accumulate more clothes if you get out there looking.  IT is hard not to go to TJ maxx and pick out like 10 super cute things.

for bottles, we are starting with 5. make sure he likes them and try not to open the other packages until necessary.

people will buy you things to when your lo gets here.

you might want a beanie/hat or two?

  • oh - no scratch mittens?
  • With my daughter, I mainly used gowns, onesies, and socks for the first few weeks.  You won't need bibs until they are eating other stuff, but you may want to get a few more burp cloths (just buy like a gerber 12 pack and wal-mart or target).  I would get a few more diapers now too, because you will go through like 300/month if you are not doing cloth.  DH and I already bought 6 boxes of newborn and size one diapers.  GL!! : D

IMO and DH's (this will be the 5th baby between the 2 of us) we think that these are a waste of $$$$.  Buy the gowns that have the fold over hands.  Then just fold the little flap over their tiny hands and they will not scratch their little face.  : D

  • Ahh I can help here :)

It all depends on how big baby is when born.  My daughter was just around 8 pounds and she was in NB diapers for quite a while before we went to size 1.  You may need one more jumbo pack of those - my baby liked to pee and poop as soon as we'd slide the new diaper under her...good times.  Oh, you'll go through wipes like candy so get more of those...

10-12 onzies are plenty.  Lexi is 7 weeks and still in her 0-3 onzies.  We have about 7 or 8 and do just fine.  Just depends on how frequently you do laundry but I'd say you have plenty.  She is in-between the NB and 0-3 size clothing in general so I'd get a few more outfits.  One-piece jumpers with snaps are a GODSEND, especially the ones with feet so you don't need socks.

Socks always fall off - so do what we all did in the 80's and pull them over the pantlegs.  They stay on easier that way, lol...

yes, or these.  in the summer the mittens might be good on hot days where you don't have the baby in a long sleeve shirt.  They might be a waste of money - but honestly like are a few bucks. you can always use socks too.

Oh, yes: we have about 10 swaddling blankets and then two of those velcro swaddler thingies so I think we are good there.  We also have 3 or 4 neborn caps but only one set of mittens.  So I'll get more mittens!  Did you use hats?  And if so, for how long?  Do you need them in July?

I am delivering at Fair Oaks because I have Kaiser.  Where are you delivering?  I have heard mixed reviews on the Loudoun Center.  Fair Oaks I've heard nothing about because everyone I know has delivered at Fairfax, Reston, or Loudoun.
