bumps on upper arms..almost pimple like

My DS has these little skin colored bumps all over his upper arms.  Is this Eczema?  Anyone have a DC that has this as well?  Did you go to a dermatologist for this, and if so did they give you any medication for it?

Re: bumps on upper arms..almost pimple like

  • It is prob. eczema. DS has it and Pedi checked my arms and asked if DH has sensitive skin and she said it is hereditary and it may never go away. That is a very common place to see eczema. I would just ask Pedi at next?appointment?but I bet that is what it is.?

  • DD has bumps but on her legs. We are going to see a pediatric derm tomorrow, the pedi thinks it might be Karatosis Pelaris.
  • It sounds a lot like Eczema.  DD hasn't needed medication for hers yet, knock on wood ... we've just had to go with a very mild soap (we use an olive oil based castile soap) and scent free lotion.

  • DD has it and so do I.  I checked into it and dr said it was hereditary and not to do anything because it would never go away.  He said to just apply lotion to keep it from getting itchy and to use sunscreen as sun damage could make it worse.  Doesn't bother me or DD.
  • It does sound a lot like Keratosis pilaris. My DD has it on her upper thighs. It is hereditary and unfortunately DD got it from me. The best thing to do is keep the area super moisturized, Aquaphor is our best friend and we use it twice a day. It really helps!

  • Hmm maybe it IS ezcema. DS had this one quarter sized spot on his left side calf since he was about 2 months. When we totally stopped formula for about 2 months it cleared! When it would get really red & itchy we'd put steroid cream his pedi prescribed for it and it would clear in a day. I have noticed the area of his upper/side thighs gets bumpy feeling if I don't lube him good w/ Aveeno lotion. The Baby J&J Lotion has alcohol in it so we quit that too. I hear most kids grow out of these breakouts by the time they are 2, but i'm sure there are some that never do.
  • I've had that my whole life (also on my upper arms). I do not think mine is eczema. It has never bothered me (other than b/c I wish I had smooth, soft skin there). It does not itch or anything.
  • What you describe, skin-colored bumps, sounds nothing like eczema and exactly like keratosis pilaris.  There's nothing you can do about KP, I know I have had it most of my life, it's very common.  Eczema is flat, and sometimes a little pinkish and flaky.
