Staph Infections (Rant)

I am hot under the collar. Let me start by saying I am a police officer. When I found out I was pregnant the department took me off the street and put me at a desk job. I was ok with that...its sucked to be away from my friends but whatevs. So I work with a bunch of civilians and other officers who are pregnant/ hurt. I found out today this civilian (a freaking nut to begin with) has a staph infection on her face. I'm not going to to get into how disgusting she is. I went to my sgt and he told me to call my doctor....ummm for what?!? This stuff is highly infectious and I am pregnant...you don't have to be a doctor to figure that out. I contacted my captain at the station I am assigned to and if something is not done by tom. I am going to call my union. Why should I risk getting sick becasue someone doesn't want to use their sick time? Why should I have to pay a copay for my doctor and buy unessecary meds? Why should I have to ????? Some people I swear!!!!!!

Staph is commonly found on your skin to begin with so unless you have an open sore you shouldn't be too worried about catching anything.  Just wash your hands and you should be fine.

It is still disgusting to think about...besides that I am pregnant and fretting about everything. O and fyi she covered the infection with a freakin band-aide....If it were me I would stay home.

If I stayed home every time my staph infection reappeared (recurring one on my cheek) I would lose my job.  Is it oozing?  Is she touching it a ton and then touching you?  In the 10 or so years that mine have recurred on my face about once every 2 months, I've never transmitted it to anyone, not even my husband that sleeps in the same bed as me.

If there's a question of her being careful with touching it and washing her hands, well, that's something to be concerned about.  Otherwise, take a breath, and relax.
