WDW MGM Studios

It's going to sound like we take a vacation every month, but trust me we don't! But we do go to Orlando every summer in August so I'm planning now so that we can save some money and have lots of fun.

We plan to get flex tickets to Universal Studios and to Busch Gardens since those parks are just as much fun as WDW, but have much better prices. However, it would be silly of us to take Jayden to Orlando and not take him to a Disney park to meet some characters, so we plan to take him to one of the parks one day that week. Lat year we did Magic Kingdom. He HATED it. I am not kidding. He screamed and cried the entire time, except when he saw Mickey Mouse. He could have stayed in that tent all day. It was the highlight of our day but it only lasted for 5 minutes! lol! So this year we want to try MGM studios. I know that they have the characters from the Pixar films and he will love that, especially Lightning McQueen! I would also love for him to see some of the characters from Playhouse Disney and of course he can also see Mickey Mouse since he makes an appearance there as well. My one question about that park, though, is do they have ANY rides at all? He likes to ride, but I don't remember there being any rides for the kids there but I could be wrong...

Re: WDW MGM Studios

  • If my memory serves me correctly, it is more show oriented than ride oriented.  The big ride draws are adult rides....Rockin' Rollercoaster and Tower of Terror.

It is called Hollywood Studios now instead of MGM.  Hope the link helps!

  • "MGM Studios" no longer exists. It's now Disney's Hollywood Studios. They do have rides. Cruise on over to https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/hollywood-studios/

  • It's not called MGM anymore...

Anyway, there are rides, but they're not that kid-friendly. ?I tend to get it confused with universal, but regardless, the rides are based on movies. ?The two that I know for sure are the hotel one with the big drop and the Aerosmith roller coaster. ?There's a studio tour too.

    ?If I were 2, I wouldn't be thrilled...?

  • Well, DS liked Hollywood Studios b/c that's where the Playhouse Disney stuff was.  If I'd have realized it, I would have done a character meal there with the Little Einsteins.  He was 17 months when we were there last summer.

    GL!

  • Oh he would love the Little Einsteins character meal! I'll have to call ahead to see about having a meal made specially for his food issues and hopefully he's better at sitting in a meal type setting by then.

Gina, he loves seeing and meeting characters that he knows from tv, so I'm sure he will be thrilled even if there aren't any rides for him to ride that day ;)

  • Thanks for the link Isabella. So it's really similar to Universal Studios with the 3-d rides, which is great b/c he likes those and I saw several that he will love included some live puppet shows.

My pleasure Makin! The name change was mostly due to squabbles Disney was having with MGM over this and that (you know how it goes). But Disney also wanted to freshen up the studios and thought that a name change would help.

My family and I were invited to the grand opening of Disney's MGM Studios back in 1989. It was one of the most brutally hot days ever! I'll never forget it.

Go and have fun! I'd love to hear how the trip went when you get back :)
