Sciatica relief ????

Have any of you suffering with Sciatica found relief from anything???

Mine has gotten much worse over the last few days and nothing seems to be helping.  My doc made it seem as if it's just something I have to cope with until the baby comes.  Were any of you given anything or any suggestions what to do to ease the pain?

 Thanks ladies!

Re: Sciatica relief ????

  • I sit on an ice pack for like 10 minutes.... then a heating pad for 10 minutes

    then I repeat.

    It helps a little

  • I was having some problems a week or so ago with that.  i found lying on the opposite side from the pain brough temporary relief, but I know what you mean.  I'm on my feet most of the day, and some days it's to the point where I'm limping.  Good Luck

  • DH used icyhot patches when he had it.
  • I have tried a heating pad but that just makes it worse.  The whole laying on the opposite side does not work for me.  I am going to try stretching and yoga this week I guess...

Let me know if you find something!

  • My doctor told me that if it really starts bothering me, he'll refer me to a physical therapist.  Could you ask your doctor about that?

Ask for a referral to see a physical therapist. They can show you safe exercises you can do on a daily basis to help stretch the nerve and relieve some of that pressure. I have sciatica when I'm not pregnant and PT has been the only person to give me some relief.

  • Where are you feeling it?  I've actually been having sciatic nerve pain in my ass cheek (lovely, I know).  It hurts to walk, so very frustrating!  Two things help:  laying on your back on a tennis ball, roll around on the tennis ball where the pain is to "massage" it.  Also, this stretch works well: lay on your and pull your knee toward your chest, then over to the side opposite the pain.  If you're having back pain, though, I've got nothing!
