So my boss had wanted me to go part-time for a while, and I was trying to push it off until after the baby comes so we could save as much money as possible before then and I could be a part-time SAHM after the baby comes.
Well, Friday the hammer finally fell and my boss said I was being laid off. There are only three people that work for my company (the boss, me, and part-time consultant who is currently on maternity leave). He is paying me through June, but I have a pretty big belly for only 13 weeks. DH used to be a body builder- he's huge- and I was 110 pre-pg, so I look like I could be 20 weeks right now.
I am only working a few more days until I can write the processes for my responsibilities for the other girl, since she isn't even here for me to show her.
I am really worried about finding a job pregnant, and I know they can't discriminate against me, but I think we all know it happens anyway. Please keep our family in your prayers!
Re: Lost My Job
I am so sorry to hear about your most recent situation. I was dropped to part time about 6 weeks ago, it truly was a slap in the face. Luckily we were able to still make everything work financially and i have to admit the time off has been pretty nice, being preggers and all. And even though my boss has stressed it is only temporary...the thought of losing my job completely has been ever present in my mind. And it freaks me out! Like you its just me and my boss, so its a very small company situation.
Can you claim unemployment? Well if you can do it and then just apply as you go, if you end up spending the rest of your pregnancy on unemployment then that's just how it is.
Take care of yourself and remember unforunately right now you will find more people in your same situation then would like to admit it.
I am so sorry!
It's a terrible time for anyone to find a job so pregnancy just adds to it. Maybe try some temp agencies for some work?
I'm SO sorry!!! I, too, was laid off in January. I applied for unemployment to see if I could get it while I looked for a part-time job because we had planned I would go part-time after the baby was born. I hate to say this, but I make more money with unemployment than I would working part-time, so we're using that until I am ready to go back to work after the baby is born. I had applied for a great job, made it through 2 rounds of interviews and was asked back for a 3rd when it occured to me to look into their maternity leave. They would ONLY be able to give me 6 weeks of maternity leave (which seems SO short) and it would be unpaid. My DH and I can't afford to go that long without pay but if I were hired, I would forfeit my unemployment that I could collect during "maternity" leave and beyond. It's awful and beneficial that unemployment offers a better deal for us. I hate taking advantage, but it was offered to me.
GL! I hope all works out!!
aww. im sorry! everything happens for a reason
Oh Gini! I am so sorry! I think the freelance idea might be good though (of course, I have no idea what you do for a living so that may or may not be possible for you)
Good luck!
::hugs::
