How often did your 1 week old feed? Owen was born at 36 weeks. They have me feeding every three hours but lately he has been eating every 1hr 45 mins. It's wonderful that he is eating so well, but he is feeding for 20 minutes on each side and then hungry again before the two hour point. Is this similar to what you guys experienced?

ha, all 1,2,3,4 weeks old do is eat,and for a long time per side usually.  there is also a 10-14 day growth spurt which is nuts.

and what do you mean "they had me feeding every 3 hours" who is they and who puts their baby on a schedule???

yup! ?After my milk came in she wanted to nurse all the time the first few weeks. ?This period is what establishes your supply later... so nurse as much as you can - it won't be forever, I promise! ?You will see results pretty quick since they grow crazy fast those first few weeks.

Totally normal!  If you feed on demand at this point, you'll build a better supply.  I don't think we ever went 3 hours between feeds at that point (you wouldn't want him to go longer during the day than 3 hours though).

The pediatrician. Preemies don't always know their feed signals so he had to be woken up to eat atleast every 3 hours.

Sounds normal to me.  The growth spurt started around day 7 for DD and went on for a week, I swear.  Then she was still eating about every 2 hours for the next couple of weeks.  We hit the next big growth spurt at 5.5 weeks, which coincided exactly with Christmas.  I nearly gave up BFing, but then it magically became easier shortly after that.
