Babies: 9 - 12 Months

When did you switch to Stage 3 foods?

Was it a certain age?

DD is fine w/almost all of the Stage 2 foods and eats alot of finger/table foods now. I'm just not sure when to switch.

I have a bunch of Stage 2's to last her until after she's 9 months.

Re: When did you switch to Stage 3 foods?

  • DD is only recently any good w/finger foods so for us it was kinda late (9.5-10 mos);  just last week she was able to eat the entrees w/o gagging...prior to that we were only doing fruits and veggies which aren't chunkier, just has more in the jar than stage 2;  every week or so since she turned 9 mos we'd try a stage 3 entree--most of the time she wouldn't eat alot of it but, like I said, this week was good.  For us, it was just trial and error.

  • We never did stage 3, she just stuck with stage 2 and oatmeal til she really got into food. We also smashed normal food up.

Same here. Our pedi and EI specialist actually told us to skip stage 3. They said stage 3 foods are just the stage 2 with lumpier pieces mixed in so babies can get use to the texture, but if DC is already starting table food (most are by 9 months) it is best to start feeding them more table food with different textures.
