Multiples

The 2-month shots...

How did it go with your multiples?? Did you bring someone with you? Was it difficult when they both got shots and started screaming? I'm thinking of bringing my mom but am also wondering if it's necessary. Also, do you think it's a good idea to leave my 2.5 yr. old at home? I don't want her to see them scream and then associate the pain w/the shots. Although, she already really knows that they hurt...ha..ha.

Re: The 2-month shots...

  • I brought my mom but we ended up waiting so long that she had to go to the bathroom and I ended up being alone in the office when they got their shots.  I would say that if your Dr office can fit your stroller or if you can/plan on taking them in their infant seats you will be fine.  In your situation I would leave your daughter with grandma and just take the twins in yourself.

  • I actually always bring my mom with me to the pediatrician - it just makes it so much easier to get their clothes on and off, etc. In terms of the shots, we've tried it a couple of different ways. They can probably do both babies at the same time, in which case you may want someone there with you to help you calm them when the shots are over. If you are nursing, you may want to have them do the shots one at a time and nurse in between - I've found that it provides a lot of comfort and seems to take their mind off of things quickly, especially as my kids are getting bigger and are more aware of what's going on. Even if you don't bf, a bottle will provide a nice distraction. And don't forget the tylenol! Good luck... and I agree with pp, leave your daughter at home.

  • I had my Mom with me and it was great.  She would told one while I was with the other one who was getting the shots.  She is going to be here for their 4 month shots also and I am very glad.
