So, I think I need some good thoughts today

I had some tests run last week on my thyroid.  Turns out some of my levels are VERY far out of whack, and I imagine the ultrasound did not go all that well either.  The tech told me that my thyroid was so lumpy (aka unhealthy) that she could not even determine if there were nodules onit.

The scary part came when i got a call from the specialist...at 3:30 on the Saturday afternoon of a holidy weekend...asking if I could make it in this afternoon for a consultation because the dr had reviewed my records and wanted to see me.

I figure if it was really, really bad i would be seeing an oncologist instead of an endocronologist and they would have asked that i not come alone.  I am still nervous though, and would be much obliged if you could think good thoughts.

    Breathe!!!

you're going to be alright... There are a lot of scenarios that could play out but you have to remember to be positive and breathe :)

I have had quite a bit of experience in this area, both myself and through loved ones...this is what I know...I hope the information helps

    1. not matter what, they are going to give you a med that you have to take forever...it's no big deal ( A LOT of people incl. me take it)...it's a tiny pill and it's sweet (in case you have problems with pills I find this info helpful)

    2. if there aren't any nodules that they are worried about, they may just have you take the meds and continue to be monitored via blood work and U/S every few months to watch for changes...if there aren't any nodules on your thyroid that need to be monitored or biopsied but they feel that it is very likely that you will develop cancer at a later time they will recomend that you have it (the Thyroid gland) removed...this sux, yes,  but it is not as bad as you might think (I have a good friend that had this scenario). the recovery is a month-6wks...

    3. if there are nodules or tissue that they want you to have biopsied the endo will send you for the procedure...not to an oncologist (sp) first usually. My cousin has had tumors removed from her thyroid (cancerous obviously) and they told her that it is very unlikely to recur!.
