How do you do tummy time? pillow? none?

Do you use a boppy, smaller pillow, or nothing to prop your little one up? We've got an activity mat that came with a small pillow about the size of a wine bottle (a little flatter and softer, of course...hehe). We've tried tummy time propped up on that and without it. He still hates it anyhow. He lays on the pillow with his face smooshed down on the mat. Would he enjoy it better if I used something bigger like the boppy? Or would that arch his back too much?

  • I never used anything to prop him up.  J5 hated tummy time until he could play with something with his hands.  So that wasn't until like, 3 months old.  This was my trick to make him do tummy-time at least a few times a day.  I put a blanket on the floor outside our bathroom and everytime I had to go, I put him down for tummy-time and did my business.  He cried of course, but I couldn't go get him and it just kind of made him do it for a least a couple of minutes a few times a day.  It will get better!

  • When he was little we either didn't use anything or something would use a small towel roll under his armpits.  Good luck!

  • At first we started tummy time with him on our chests while we reclined...so not entirely horizontal.  Then we moved him so his chect would be on us, but his legs would be down to the side.  Then we did the boppy or bed pillow.  Then we did nothing under him.  At that point he was pretty good at lifting his head/chest, so he enjoyed tummy time much more.

  • Sometimes I used to prop her up on the boppy or a roller up blanket. Most of the time she just did it on my lap, chest, my bed, etc. She really hated being on her belly on the floor.?
  • I mainly do TT with him on my chest and sometimes with the boppy. ?he hates it just on the mat. ?he's just to little still.

  • Early on a boppy helped, but DS hated it anyway.  Just keep trying...if you can get in a few minutes a day then consider it an achievement.  Another way that helps is to put him on your tummy...tummy to tummy so he can look at you.

I wouldn't stress out too much about it though, Ethan hated it so much I barely did it, but he held his head up on time and is just fine...so do what you can, but don't push it if baby isn't feeling it.
