Success after IF

sharps disposal

Okay, for whatever reason, I have kept my sharps containers from the IVF cycle and the progesterone through the first tri.  I can't find my booklet that came with the drugs, but I thought I read that once you seal them, you can discard the entire container in the regular trash.  Is that correct?

TIA!

Re: sharps disposal

  • It varies by state I think. Here in IL you can throw the whole sharps container in the trash. Not sure about TX though.

  • My RE said I could seal it and toss the whole container in the regular trash. But like you, for some reason I still have the full container tucked in the back of a cabinet. I have no idea why I haven't thrown it away yet!
After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!

  • It varies by state. ?You DEFINITELY want to check your states guidelines. ?If you're not sure where to check, call your local hospital and they will be able to tell you. ?They may even allow you to drop off your sharps to them for proper disposal - ours does.

  • I brought mine to my REs office, but you can take it to any doctor's office for disposal.  That is probably your safest bet...

  • I think the easiest place to check is your waste management company's website- the company or the city/county waste dept depending on how yours is set up.

  • Thanks... I looked and TX doesn't have any regulations yet (which suprises me given the huge % of diabetics in San Antonio).  It feels weird to get rid of the containers.  Next will be the gonal-f pen with one dose left :)  Why do I want to hold on to these things?

I still have all my stuff too. I'm 19 weeks and I don't think I'll toss it all til the babies are born! I even still have old meds, I obviously can't use them again but I can't seem to toss them...
