And a cervix question

My cervix has always measured at about 4.3 cm. Last week it was 3.6 and yesterday it was down to 2.6.

I am going to call my doctor when the office opens, but it just concerned me a little. I'm still working full time and am wondering at point I should stop in order to keep my cervix long. I know its normal for it to get shorter, but does this seem like a fast progression to anyone else?

Re: And a cervix question

  • They stopped checking mine several weeks ago and I was at a 3.5 at the last check, which they said was good. My doctor and peri said that they stop checking b/c inevitably it's just going to get shorter from here. 2.6 seems fine at this point to me, but it certainly doesn't hurt to ask the doctor. That being said, I stopped work this week. My doctor and I decided that even though I'm not having any problems that he'd rather me be off of my feet and increase the chances that I keep them in as long as possible....

  • Losing an entire cm in a week would concern me. My peri used to put people on bedrest at 2.5.  I would definately call and ask - and start taking it very easy. I went from a nice long cervix to 100% effaced literally overnight and bought myself 4 weeks in a hospital bed. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I'd seriously cut back if I were you.

  • Ditto Susanb . . . I know it is supposed to shorten the farther along you get, but I went from a 4.0 to a 1.8 in two weeks and landed on strict bedrest at 24 weeks.  I stayed there with no cervix changes until 32 weeks (I was also 1cm dilated).

I'd ask your dr/peri just to be safe.  Take care!

  • I was put on bedrest when my cervix was 2.5 cm.   I was put on a monitor and was having some contractions as well...That was the first time they measured my cervix, so I don't know what it was before.  My bedrest started at 23 weeks.  I would say even if you aren't put on bedrest to definitely take it easy!

  • I am pretty sure 2.5 is a standard "you're on bedrest now" length, although I don't know at what point that doesn't apply anymore... definitely try to take it easy!  My ob was going to take me out of work at 30 weeks no matter what but I was on bedrest before that anyways.
