Sleeping with blankets

Do you let you LO sleep with a blanket? Does he/she pull it over their face and do you let them? My daycare lets her sleep with a blanket over her face, but makes sure it doesn't get tight. I don't like it, but everyone I've talked to says you can breath threw the blankets and they don't think its a big deal. Just wondered what everyone else's input is. She really likes having it on her face and she goes down for a nap much easier with it. TIA!

Re: Sleeping with blankets

  • DD naps w/ one.  sometimes it is over her face.  if i can move it w/o waking her, i do.  she does not sleep w/ one at bedtime.

  • I put blankets on her, but she's never had them on her face. If anything, she wiggles backward away from it.

  • Ya at night she sleeps with a sleep sack and thats it. I'm the most paranoid person in the world so this is freaking me out
  • DS has slept with blankets from day one. He sometimes gets it over his face but when I check on him I move it. By the end of his nap/sleep it is usually off him altogether. I don't worry at all.
  • No. But more importantly, shouldn't you be able to specify whether or not your LO sleeps with a blanket at daycare? It would be a priority for me to be able to say "no blankets in my baby's crib" at his daycare.
  • I think about it this way...how do you feel when a blanket is over your face? Meaning, yes, she may like it, but how is your breathing when it is on your face? I know that I start to get warm and sometimes feel like I need some air!

I would not be comfortable with that. In fact, we did try a blanket w/ DS b/c when we weaned from the swaddle, I did not have any sleep sacks yet. DS would end up w/ the blanket on his face and I was not comfortable with that...even if he can breathe through it!

My DS was the same way... he slept better w/ the blanket. Since I wasn't comfortable w/ it, we gave him a lovey and it had the same effect! Maybe you can try that instead?

  • DS sleeps with a knit afghan.  he has never gotten it over his face--i tuck it under his armpits. every time i go in to get him out of bed, he's laying on top of it.

if it was over his face, i'd take it out of the bed.

  • No blankets for us- ped told us to wait til DS was a year. ?
  • I let DS sleep with 2 loveys (animal head w/blanket attached), but I didn't start until he was 7 months old. I'm still too nervous to put a blanket in there. He's fine in his sleepsak.

  • DD sleeps with a blanket and has since she was put into her crib at 7 months.  Before that she co slept and we had blankets and a comforter that she would snuggle underneath.

  • Kian has also always slept with a blanket and will not go to bed without one - he actually sleep with a baby pillow too, again he wont sleep without it.
