Has anyone attended Bradley Method classes in the area? I'm delivering at Troy Beaumont but didn't see anything on their class list that was specific to the Bradley Method. Also, if I do at Bradley class, should I still attend the Childbirth class at Beaumont? Or is that doubling up?
TIA!
Re: Bradley Method classes?
I've taught Bradley in the past, and now teach a similar method that is a bit more up to date, and a little more varied when it comes to relaxation methods. One of the reasons that Troy doesn't have any info on Bradley is that Bradley students (and other out of hospital childbirth ed students) KNOW more than typical hospital staff want them to know. They ask questions, challenge protocols, and make decisions that are best for their family, whether they are best for the hospital's lawyers or not. That doesn't make them BAD patients, just sometimes more work for the staff.
I did take the hospital class as well, frankly to see what protocols I'd be "up against" as typical procedures that were perhaps not the best choice for my baby/birth plan. It was good to see the difference in the classes!...that the hospital class is NOT for people who are looking for a non-medicated, non-interventive birth, but more to show people what it means to be a compliant patient. *shrug* However, an out of hospital class like a Bradley class can be 10-12 weeks long...so taking the hospital class as well can be time consuming. I am just a bit of a birth geek. *sheepish*
