Daycare or MDO moms - is this an unwritten rule?

I take my son to Mother's Day Out each week, and for the second time I've ended up looking like a jerk.  The first was Halloween, and now Easter.  Neither time did they send home a note that said there would be a holiday celebration and to bring treats for the other kids.

For Halloween they did send home something the week before that said to dress them up in costume, but nothing about treats for the other kids.  Then this week they had an Easter celebration, and all the other moms brought cute little homemade goodies for the classmates.  There was nothing for Christmas though, so it's not like it's every holiday.  And I'm not even sure how many kids are in his class now, since some have moved up.

I feel like a thoughtless jerk.  I'd be happy to bring stuff, but I feel like I should get some kind of notice.  Is this an unwritten rule I just don't know about?

Re: Daycare or MDO moms - is this an unwritten rule?

  • I do think it is an unwritten rule, but I never cared if another parent didn't put something together. ?This happened to me at kindermusik( I was?embarrassed), so I was ready for holidays at preschool. ?I usually get some things at the $1 spot at target for the kiddies.
  • DS's daycare teachers always let us know in advance if they're having a party and have a sign-up sheet for us to identify what we want to bring in (they usually specify snacks or other things and we sign our name next to the one we want to be responsible for). I would never in a million years think to just bring something in if we weren't told to. I have such mommy brain, though, that I'd lose my head if it weren't attached to my body.
