xp: Shoes for daycare aged 18-24 months?

DD (16 months) is in the 12-18 month room - she wears robeez to daycare. At this age, they don't take them outside. When she goes into the 19-30 month room, she will be going outside but the toddler play area is just on a deck (ie. no dirt, grass, etc). I am debating what to do for shoes for her- should I keep her in Robeez/pedipeds, or should I put her in hard-soled shoes? TIA

  • Jake has been wearing hard shoes since 12mo (and a little sooner). All of the walkers in the infant room had on hard shoes too.
  • I would get hard-soled shoes if she's going outside.

DS walks around outside as long as it isn't wet out and is still in Pedipeds. He doesn't have any hard soled shoes yet. I would think on a deck she would be fine in soft soled shoes.
  • I would get hardsoled as well.

  • For DD we bought a pair of Preschoolians which have a flexible sole but the uppers are like Robeez. I'm guessing they're a lot like the PediPed Flex shoes. Those weren't out when DD was that age, though.

  • I would go with a shoe that has a really flexible rubber bottom.  That way she will still have protection outside, but won't find walking in them too difficult.  Robeez have a line called Trendz.  Pedipeds makes rubber soled too.  Or check out the Jack & Lily shoes, they have a line called 'my shoes' that are great.

  • My daycare requires if they go outside to be in hard soled shoes, no matter the age.

also with so many kids running around if they are in soft soles shoes, they will probably get stepped on and get their feet hurt.

  • I just got DD a few pair of the pedoodles.  They have a very flexible rubber sole but they fit like the robeez.  My older DD has the pediped flex but the sole is too stiff and heavy for m little one still.

The pedoodles I ordered came from greenbabybargins.com.  They may still have some.

  • DD has been in hard soled shoes since about 14 months (but flexible soles!!)  I've done quite well at Target (but you need to check the shoes in person, because some are not flexible.  I have also ordered "Squeaker Shoes" off ebay (usually $10-$20/pr) super cute and super soft, and you can easily remove the squeaker.
