On our registry and all the registries I've ever seen, there have been bottles. I would suggest that you go and check out the bottles. It seems that people have a different opinion and preference. While we were in the NICU, they used Dr. Browns so that's what we use. Oh and we started with the small 4oz. bottles since he didn't drink that much to begin with.

I went with the bottle that could attach to my pump-Dr. Browns and Medela. We got quite a few as gifts (that weren't on our registry) but DS was EBF, so we really didn't use that many. For us 4-6 bottles would have be more than enough. And all of ours were the smaller size, the most he ever drank out of a bottle at one time was 6oz. Oh, and I have heard that some babies are picky about which bottles they like, so it might be a good idea to just get a few and make sure the baby likes it. I'm not sure if this is true- since we didn't have that problem.
I am determined to breastfeed until I go back to work, so I've registered for some bottles that come recommended highly for breastfeeding moms.
That said, I'm not registering for many as I 've heard there's can be a lot of trial and error, and they're cheap enough to buy as we need down the road.
I'd register for a starter pack of one brand just so you have some on hand in case you need them. You might have a kid who will take anything, or you might end up having to buy one of every single kind of bottle ever known to man before you find one your kid will take. So just register for a few, and see how it goes.
THe Dr. Browns seem like they have way too many parts to clean to me. I would go with something simpler first and go to Dr. Browns if you need to later.

I agree with Jill. I didn't think I'd end up being an exclusive pumper - I didn't think BFing would be anything we couldn't do. I was *really* glad I had a bottle on hand when my DD needed to supplement right at the beginning. I really like Playtex dropins - though I also have quite a collection of Medela bottles that attach to my pump.
I'd suggest you register for drop ins and then if those don't work, go with something different.
I would. We use Playtex Drop-ins (although we use the soft liners, much cheaper than the drop-in stiff ones) and we registered for this kit in the beginning, it's a nice starter package with small and big bottles, nipples/rings and a supply of drop-ins for each size:
I would register for bottles, because even if you are determined to breast feed, you never know what the situation will be.
I had strictly purchased the medela ones - as they go with my breast pump. After having a preemie, I had to exclusively pump to feed her. Needless to say my sister had to run out and buy a ton of bottles for me so that I could keep up with the strict pumping schedule. Constantly pumping and cleaning bottles. The NICU used similac nipples, so since she was used to those I went to their website and bought a box.
Once she started drinking more than 4 oz, I transitioned into the playtex drop ins.

We registered for the Born Free gift pack-3 small bottles and 1 large.
I also went to playtex.com and got a bunch of free samples sent to all my family member's houses.
