A very random stomach bug PSA

Alec is three days into a nasty nasty bug. He finally kept down some applesauce this afternoon, but now he's having horrible diarrhea. The pedi said that's actually good and means the bug is moving down his GI tract and working its way out. (Yeah, don't let the door hit you...)

Anyway, I had to give him a bath after a couple gross blowouts, and was terrified he was going to poop in the bathtub. I was even pulling out the "important" bath toys, fearing the worst, as the bath was running. I was thinking, "God, I wish I could just keep his diaper on." Then the light bulb went off: swim diaper! Problem solved. Luckily, he didn't go again, but it was nice insurance.

Maybe everyone has thought of this, but I just thought I'd pass it on.

  • I really don't want to burst your bubble, but swim diapers don't do much for poop-- maybe an extra second or 2 to save some of the water-filled toys that never get all the way dry, but not much more than that. ?We witnessed a swim diaper accident at the pool last summer, and it was NOT PRETTY.

Bath tub poops are the WORST-- glad you were spared and that your little guy is on the mend.?

  • Nope, I hadn't thought of that!  We just had our first poop in the bathtub experience - fortunately there wasn't water in there yet so cleanup was relatively easy.

Glad to hear he's feeling better.  I know I'd much rather be affected by a stomach bug at that end - puking is the worst!

It was just that extra second or two I was hoping for. Stick out tongue I knew it wasn't foolproof, but I thought it was better than letting him free-ass. (Is that the bath equivalent of free-balling?)

  • MY ds had what sounds like the exact same thing 2.5 days of throwing up followed by 2.5 days of horrible diarrhea. Poor kiddos :(
