Speaking of spices in foods...

We like SPICY food.  I really don't want to have to cook differently but of course I don't know how to introduce spicy into the babies palattes.

I just keep thinking that other cultures have very spicy food and their children eat it.  Has anyone experienced this?

Re: Speaking of spices in foods...

  • Babies are born being pre-wired to have a pallete for whatever your cooking tastes are.  When you're preggo, your amniotic fluid tastes like the food you eat.  So even in utero, they are becoming accustomed to thhe foods your family eats as they taste and swallow the amniotic fluid.  Also, not sure if you BFed or not, but breast milk also carries flavors from the food you eat and b/c babies taste your food preference flavors in utero, they're drawn to those same flavors in your BM.  So they'd actually probably prefer the spicier foods over bland foods.

  • I read in Baby 411 that you can put spices in baby's food.  There were some restrictions, but not many.  Basically the sooner the better to get their tasted in line with yours.

  • We give Sarah and Madeline food spiced to the way I like it (not quite as spicy as DH likes it), and they haven't had any issues with spices at all.
