Baby Names

How would you spell this? (Teachers please chime in!)

I am terrible with phonics.?

If LO is a girl, I want to name her Bree-in (NOT Breanne)

How would you spell it?

Brienne? Breynne?...something else?

**I know some people don't like the name, but to be frank, that is not what I care about. :) ?I really just want how you would spell it?

Re: How would you spell this? (Teachers please chime in!)

  • Does LO mean little one? It's not in the glossary.

Is the accent on Bree or In?

  • Loading the player...
  • I would probably spell it Brienne.
  • I would say Brienne.
  • Yes, LO = Little One

I am not sure where the accent is...I am really bad with that. ?I would pronounce it Bree - in ?(Bree as in BreAnn, and in like "in the door")

    Hope this helps!?

  • You could use an accent mark as in the name Renee.
  • I had a friend named Brienne, but she pronounced it Bree-Enn (like, end without the D). It was always a bit confusing for everyone.
  • In all honesty....I don't know that there is a good way to spell it so people pronounce it correctly.  The ways you suggested look more like Bree - en not Bree - in.

Right. No one else will know how to pronounce it and spell it if you can't. ?

I know how I am going to pronounce...hence the explanation. ?I have seen it spelled Brienne, but was wondering if someone else had some POSITIVE input...?

  • I do think the name is pretty but I really think it will be hard on your child to CONSTANTLY have to correct everyone on the pronunciation of her name. I would spell it Brienne BUT at first glance, I would have just said Bri-anne.
  • Brienne looks nice. I understand how you want to pronounce it, btw! But , of course people will mess it up, regardless. GL
  • How about Breinne?

I think it is a pretty name. I am a teacher and I have a Brenna, Breanna, Brianda. If I saw Breinne I would say it the way you are looking for.

  • Forgot to mention that I am a teacher too and if I had a student named Brienne OR Breinne I would pronounce it right but I think Brienne looks better.
  • it would be brienne, it sounds a little made up but it is the name of an actual place.

  • I would spell it Brienne, but then I would also pronounce it Bree-en.  I think that's as close as you'll get to Bree-in...
  • There's really no changing your mind? Really????
  • I have a friend who spells it Breanne and pronounces it the way you want to pronounce it.?

  • After reading the OP and all the replies, I think I am more confused than when I opened the post.

So, do you want to pronounce it "Bree-Ann" or "Bree-En"?  And if you want it pronounced "Bree-En", is the stress on the first or second syllable?

I think I would just try to keep it simple and spell it Brienne, although I think that if I read that, I would pronounce it "Brian"... I'm not sure there is a way to spell it that gets you the pronounciation that you want.

  • If I saw Breinne, I would say it sort of like Brain. If I saw brienne I would say Bri-en.

Breeyin may be an option. It would hard to mispronounce that.

  • As an elementary teacher, I would say Brienne.

But what about Brieynn (the ynn is like in lynn).

  • Well, I don't really know that you will get a foolproof spelling for that pronunciation. ?As an elementary teacher with a literacy specialty, I'd say that Brienne is the closest I've seen that may phonetically work for you, although technically, I'd say that should be "Bree-enn" which is not quite what you wanted. ?Trying to pair those two vowel sounds together is going to be tricky and will surely be mispronounced most of her life. ?I think it's a pretty idea, you should just understand what you're facing. ?

I love B names with that sound, too. Have you considered Brynn? Brynna? Brenna??
  • Brienne is a good way to spell it, but honestly no matter how you spell it people are going to pronounce it incorrectly!

Dittto this (okay, so I didn't have a friend with that name, but I agree that Brienne looks like Bree-enn)?

  • Breinne?

Not sure, but Brienne kind of looks like Brian. Sorry if I was of no help.

  • I have 2 students with names spelled breanna.  one pronounces it BRE-ahna, and one is bre-ANna.  You will set the standard for the pronunciation.

Brienne is pretty looking, but sounds like BRE-en to me.

    Good luck!

I think this spelling would help with pronunciation. Brie, like the cheese and ynn, like lynn.  Good idea, poster!

    agreed?

  • Brienne. I love that name. I have never heard it before, but I would totally copy you if my name wasn't Breanna.
